I would like to know how to use green tea on your face for skin care. I always knew
the amazing health benefits of green tea, but it makes me feel nauseous and dizzy
every time I drink the tea. A friend suggested I use green tea externally on my skin
instead of consuming it. So, I am asking for some homemade face mask and toner recipes
with green tea that will help acne. I have sensitive and oily skin. Thank you so
much! – Maureen, Colorado.
I used to have very bad nausea problem with green tea, but I later found out that
it helps a lot if I eat something salty like crackers along with the tea. You might
want to give it a try and see if this reduces your feeling of nausea.
Green tea is really good for your skin health. Green tea contains catechins, which
are powerful antioxidants that protect your skin against oxidative damage caused
by free radicals. Free radicals can wreak havoc on your skin, damaging collagen,
elastin as well as other structural proteins in skin, leading to wrinkles, pigmentation
In addition to that, green tea catechins have antibacterial properties that are effective
in controlling acne breakouts, without the many undesirable side effects associated
with benzoyl peroxide-based creams. Further, green tea also has superb anti-inflammatory
effects. So if your sensitive skin is often red and irritated, applying green tea
topically may help soothe it.
It is also believed that epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a principal catechin in
green tea about 25-100 times more potent than Vitamins C and E, helps lighten skin
color and promotes a brighter, clearer complexion.
Here are a few homemade green tea face masks and toners that will help heal acne
prone sensitive skin, and clear skin blemishes while invigorating dull-looking skin.
For best green tea acne treatments, use only pure unflavored, organic green tea leaves,
powder or tea bags. Also, make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients
found in these homemade skin care products.
How to Make Green Tea Home Treaments for Acne Prone Sensitive Skin
Calming Green Tea Honey Acne Face Mask
The incredible oil-absorbing properties of fuller's earth help draw out excess oil,
grime and dirt, giving a cleaner feel to oily skin. Honey, particularly 100% raw
active manuka honey, is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent that help calm
acne inflammation while healing acne scarring.
Add about 5 tablespoons fuller's earth and 1 teaspoon manuka honey to ½ cup freshly
brewed hot green tea. Mix all ingredients together to form a thick paste and let
it sit for about 20 minutes or so.
Wash your face with a mild facial cleanser and generously apply green tea-honey-clay
mask, avoiding the delicate eye area. Wait for 20-30 minutes before rinsing off with
warm water. Dry your face with a fluffy towel, apply green tea toner (see below for
recipe) and follow up with a water-based moisturizer.
Invigorating Home Made Green Tea Egg White Facial for Oily Skin
Egg white not only soaks up oil from your skin, it also does a fantastic job of tightening
pores, temporarily firming up saggy skin tone.
Combine 2 tablespoons egg white with 1 tablespoon green tea powder in a small bowl.
Mix well and spread evenly on clean face. Keep the green tea and egg white face mask
for about 20 minutes or until your skin feels a bit tight. Wash off completely with
lukewarm water. Pat dry with a soft towel, apply green tea toner and moisturizer.
You can also add a splash of milk for skin whitening, or a bit of honey to moisturize.
Purifying Green Tea Toner for Acne Prone Skin
One very simple way to treat acne is to apply brewed green tea directly on blemishes.
This works because green tea has a natural astringent that both soothes irritated
skin and heals acne.
Heat 1 quart spring water until it reaches 185˚F, then pour over 1 cup organic green
tea leaf and steep for about 20 minutes. Once the tea has completely cooled, transfer
to a clean container and store in the refrigerator.
With a cotton ball, gently dab cold green tea on areas where you have acne (face
or body) and allow it to dry naturally on your skin.
Alternatively, try out this green tea-witch hazel-tea tree oil acne astringent. Lemon
acts as a natural skin bleach to lighten acne scars and skin blemishes while witch
hazel is a potent disinfectant that helps fight acne inflammation and prevent future
pimple or acne flareups. Tea tree oil has an antibacterial action due to the presence
of Terpenes, which can kill propionibacterium acnes (or P. acnes), a bacterium that
Add fresh lemon or lime juice (from 1 lemon) to 1 cup freshly brewed green tea. Stir
in 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon witch hazel, and add 1-2 drops tea tree oil.
Mix well and pour into a clean container.
Revitalizing Green Tea Apple Eye Mask Recipe
You probably know about this, placing cold tea bags over eyes helps alleviate fluid
retention, reduce dark circles and puffy eyes. But, I would like to suggest another
good home remedy that works wonders for tired, baggy eyes.
You will need a small firm apple, and 1 cup of freshly brewed and cooled green tea.
Cut apple into thin slices, and then soak them in green tea for no longer than 5
minutes. Lie down, close your eyes, and put apple slices over each eye for 10-15
