14 Ways to Drink More Water Everyday

By Diane Hanson

I don’t have to tell you this – if you want to lose weight and get rid of cellulite naturally, try to drink more water as much as possible. Drinking a glass of water before a meal is a time-tested trick every dieter could use to effectively curb hunger pangs and control appetite.

In addition, the health benefits of drinking more water extend well beyond its ability to help weight reduction. Studies have shown that adequate water intake not only promote bowel regularity while preventing and relieving episodes of constipation, it will also actually remove salt and fluid retention.

Interestingly, some people believed that drinking water that is lower than body temperature – cold water rather than warm or hot water – may help speed up metabolism and therefore, resulting in faster weight loss. According to some health experts, water that is cooled to about 70° F increases the rate of calorie burning. This is because your body has to use considerably more calories to warm up cold water to body temperature. However, avoid consuming icy cold water with your meals as it can interfere with proper digestion. Instead, drink water before and after you eat.

If you’re really serious about losing weight, try to consume one 8-ounce glass of plain water, about 30 minutes before each meal, to make your stomach feel full and cut down on overeating at meal times. Also, avoid beverages that are sweetened with sugar such as sodas and energy drinks, both of which can add tons of empty calories and contribute to unwanted weight gain.

That said, it can be very easy to forget to hydrate yourself when you’re busy with other things, and especially so in freezing cold weather where dehydration (thirst) is less noticeable. So here’s a short list of really good water-drinking tips that worked well for me and I trust you’ll find them useful too.

How to Make Yourself Drink More Water?

In the morning, upon waking up, hydrate your body with a big glass of water.

Start your day with a bowl of cereal with reduced fat milk. Did you know that a higher intake of calcium, particularly from low-fat sources, helps prevent fat storage as well?

Keep a filled water bottle by your side at work, in your backpack or in the car. And, refill it often. This will help you get into the habit of drinking more water every day.

If mid-afternoon slump hits you and make you feel really sleepy, grab a glass of ice cold water.

Never pass a water cooler without stopping for a quick sip.

Make sure to drink a tall glass of water before and after each meal.

Eat more foods cooked in water such as pasta, rice, stews and soups.

Eat fruits and vegetables with high-water content. My personal favorites include watermelons, oranges, celery and tomatoes.

When you consume fruit juices, it’s a good idea to dilute with equal parts of water. It helps you shave a few calories off your drinks.

When you have sudden cravings for junk foods like fat-laden donuts and chips, tame it down with a huge glass of water. You’ll feel comfortably full without adding inches to your waistline. If you simply dislike the taste of water, add 1-2 slices of lemon, orange, or cucumber into your pitcher of water. These simple additions will do very nicely to flavor up plain water so that you’ll get used to drinking water more often.

After your trip to the bathroom, replenish your system with another glass of water.

Sip ice cold water while watching TV instead of snacking on highly salted nuts and buttered popcorn.

Have a cup of hot water when you’re in a mood for tea or coffee. These beverages contain caffeine, which is a diuretic and makes you want to go to the bathroom even more. If you like, add a thin slice of fresh ginger root and a bit of honey to taste. Ginger is said to increase metabolism rate and improve digestion.

Drink a small glass of water a few hours before bedtime. However, the downsides are it may interrupt your sleep for trips to the bathroom, and may cause you to wake up with a temporarily puffy or swollen face in the morning.

So, there you go, if you want to shrink a size and have beautifully radiant skin, say cheers to water!
