7 Ways to Get Cheap and Affordable Health Insurance

By George G.

Many Americans are uninsured, and the number of people without healthcare insurance has climbed over the years. It is not surprising as individual or group health insurances are usually highly priced. To protect yourself from rising health costs, you need to find a healthcare insurance that suit you best with affordable premiums.

Where to Get Cheap Health Insurance Plans?

1. Workers’ Compensation

This is a good way to get health insurance. There are programs like this for every state, but many people are unaware of Workers’ Compensation.

If you happen to meet with a work-related accident, your employer has the duty to bear the expense.

2. Medicare

Almost everyone knows if they meet the grade to Medicare or not. If you are 65 years or above, you are eligible to get benefits from Medicare. Another way to become eligible is when you are receiving Social Security disability settlement.

Medicare is offered by the governance. Social Security administration does the admin for it.

3. Medicaid

Many people assume that they will lose their eligibility for benefits from Medicaid if they get a job. This is not true. Medicaid extends help to all low income families and people. But the state has the authority to set the limit.

If the healthcare cover provided by your organization is too expensive for you, make sure to  check if you qualify for Medicaid.

4. State High Risk Health Insurance Pool

If there is no help to get individual healthcare insurance, then rely on your state. It offers health insurances that may not be  affordable. But they offer to people or groups who have pre-existing conditions.

It is always best to begin with Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. If you are currently unemployed, you can still continue the insurance that was offered by your ex-employer. This is possible with COBRA, but can be an expensive option.

6. Family and Individual Healthcare Insurance

These are covers that are offered by insurance companies. They can be purchased just like an auto or home insurance.

They are more expensive than the ones offered by your employer because your employer bears equal costs with you on your cover. The individual firms who offer the covers do pose some limitations. And, they are not too keen to offer the plans for people with pre-existing conditions. Some do present the cover but only until a specified time frame.

7. Group Insurance through Organization Membership

It is very affordable and provides cost efficient health insurances. Organizations such as The Sacramento State Alumni Association offer a wide range of insurance choices.

Those who are members of such organizations can avail these benefits of group health insurance. Though they may not bear a part of your premium expense on a monthly basis, but the rates themselves would be considerably lower. This is mainly due to the group discount that comes with a group health insurance.
