I know many of you out there skip breakfast to lose weight or to save calories. Really,
you shouldn't. Skipping breakfast makes you grouchy and also cause weight gain –
you skip breakfast and then overeat later in the day to compensate. However, when
you start the day with a healthy breakfast, you're more likely to choose something
healthy or light for lunch.
And, if you don't have time to prepare a breakfast meal, no worries. Try making granola
bars over the weekends and you've a nutritious “grab-and-go” breakfast every morning.
You can also keep a few in your office desk as healthy snacks when hunger strikes!
These granola bars are low in calories, low fat, absolutely no sugar, packed with
fiber, super easy to make, inexpensive and taste way much better than store bought
Also, the recipe is highly flexible – you can use any combination of dried fruit
and nuts such as dates and walnuts or almonds and dried cranberries.
Low Calorie Pecan Raisins Granola Bars Recipe
2 egg whites
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1½ cups rolled oats
⅔ cup chopped raisins
¼ cup chopped pecans
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
How to make low calorie granola bars
Preheat oven to 325°F.
Line an 8 x 11-inch baking tray with foil and lightly coat with cooking spray.
Place egg white, ground cinnamon, salt and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Whisk
