5 Slimming Tricks to Look Instantly Thinner for a Wedding

Hi Angie,

Going to a wedding reception always makes one excited and can be rather stressful even if you are not the bride. All of us want to look our best on this special "big day". We spend countless hours deciding what to wear, how to style hair, experimenting with different makeup looks and getting ready.

I know it's really frustrating when weight loss just stopped, no matter how hard you slog in the gym, consciously eat less or even starve yourself for a week. Fortunately, there are many alternative ways to make yourself look skinnier, taller and attractive without going through the much dreaded exercise route and harsh diets.

To achieve this, you have to pay close attention to a few important details that flatter your best assets and hide your flaws.

How to Make Yourself Appear Taller, Skinner and Attractive?

1.  Bright colored clothes – bright orange, hot pink, cobalt blue, neon green, canary yellow – are great for weddings, but they draw attention to the wearer and the areas that you want to camouflage.

Dark colors create an air of sophistication and have the most slimming visual effects. These colors – black, navy blue, burgundy, dark green, rich purple, or maroon – elongates your body, making you look thinner and taller instantly.

You should dress monochromatically, meaning wear one color from head to toe. However, if you prefer to mix different colors, make sure you choose them in similar tones. Wear a lighter shade on top and a darker shade on your lower body. By doing this, the light colored top brings more attention and your pear-shaped figure remains unnoticed.

Another dressing trick for women who are trying to hide a few pounds and appear thinner is to wear clothes with unbroken vertical stripes such as striped skirts, pants, blouses, and even dresses. And, if you love flowery prints, it is best to stay with small and discrete ones rather than big blooms. Also, wear prints over your figure's best assets (firm boobs, well-toned arms, etc). Horizontal stripes or large prints all over the place will make you appear larger and fatter.

To hide a big tummy and unsightly love handles, a high-waisted pant or skirt is the perfect solution. If you decide to wear a skirt, avoid those that are either too short or too long. Short skirts tend to make your legs look chunky and thick. Long skirts or maxi skirts are not recommended for short people as they add volume and therefore extra pounds.

I highly suggest you put a midi skirt, mid calf length for a skinny and chic look. You might also want to try out this little makeup trick on your legs and make them look a mile long. Apply a bit of oil down the center of your legs and you create a glowing effect that will make your legs appear longer. Any type of oil works well – baby oil, olive oil, almond oil, or jojoba oil. You can also use a shimmering cream or a bronzer.

Don't forget to exfoliate your pins. Smooth hair free legs reflect more light, making short chubby legs longer, leaner and more shapely.

One more thing, wear soft free flowing fabric like chiffon or georgette to make yourself look long and slim.

2. You don't need me to tell you that high-heeled shoes add inches to a petite frame instantly, but just let me say a few words about shoes.

First, make sure to wear a good comfortable yet stylish pair of high heels. Wearing Ill-fitting, tight or pointy-toe high heeled shoes the whole day can be uncomfortable and painful. And, when your feet hurts, it shows in your face.

High heel stilettos add glamor and class, and make your outfit dressy. If you feel uncomfortable in sky high stiletto heels, I suggest wide heels in a mid height and nothing at the ankle.

3. Accessories can make you look like a million bucks when you use them to flatter your best features and divert attention from any trouble spots.

You want to avoid big chunky jewelry, scarves, belts, hats or any other accessory that can make you look heavy. For example, you should not wear thick belt with shiny, attention-grabbing buckle if you have a belly paunch. I usually like to keep things simple with pearls. Creamy white pearls are elegant and look stunning on any woman, whether she's tall, short, fat or thin.

Another thing worth mentioning – round hoop earrings adds width to a full wide face and emphasize your face’s roundness even more.

4. A round shaped face can appear oval and look slimmer if you apply makeup correctly. If you have beautiful eyes, use eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara to emphasize them and make them really pop out. The bigger your eyes, the slimmer your face will look.

To correct and redefine a very round face, use two different shades of foundation and blend like crazy. You want to use a a darker shade of foundation cream on the sides of face to create an illusion of depth and lengthen your face, and therefore you look thinner.

You can also contour a round face with bronzer or blusher. Avoid applying blush on the apples of your cheekbones. Instead, apply it starting from the back of your cheekbones and moving up to the temples.

5. Long hair naturally thins and lengthens a round shaped face. If you wear a center part that draws the eye along the length of the face, your face will look even more slimmer than you part your hair off center. Long, soft, layered waves will look great on you.

If  you prefer to wear your hair up and off your face, then incorporate a style with some height on top of the head. This way, your face will appear skinner and less rounded.

Whatever hairstyles you choose to wear, avoid roundish styles that creates fullness at the sides. A style that adds height at the crown instantly slims a round face and make you look taller too. Another trick to lengthen face is, show some forehead.

By Tiffany Moore

I'm going to one of my best friend's wedding in a month's time, and I desperately need to look as slim as possible. I got down to 128 pounds (lost over 6-8 pounds) and just couldn't lose anymore. Please suggest something, tips or tricks to make me look thinner and taller. I'm a short (about 5'4"), 32 year old long-haired brunette with a round face shape. I'm also pear-shaped and have rather chubby legs. Many thanks. – Angie, Cleveland.
